The Government of Yukon is seeking a physician to provide part-time services up to 15 hours per month for Integrated Health Services from July 2026 – March 31, 2027.
As the population ages, primary care clinics are increasingly caring for older adults with complex medical, functional, and cognitive needs. Timely identification, assessment, and management of cognitive impairment, dementia, frailty, and associated geriatric syndromes are essential to improving patient outcomes, supporting caregivers, and enhancing quality of life.
To strengthen capacity within primary care, we are seeking expressions of interest from physicians with expertise in geriatrics, cognitive impairment, and elder care to serve as Physician Advisor. The Physician Advisor will provide clinical consultation to primary care providers and allied health team members, education, mentorship that supports interdisciplinary primary care teams in providing high quality care.
Since its creation in 2021, Integrated Health Services (IHS) has launched or taken over the operations of five clinics/programs. Current clinical operations requiring consultation on elder care and cognitive impairment include the Centre de Santé Constellation Health Centre (Constellation), the Yukon Healthy Living Program (formerly Chronic Conditions Support Program), and the Whitehorse Walk-in Clinic.
All of the clinics and programs are multi-disciplinary. Some examples of the types of staff and contractors include physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, exercise specialists, social workers, dieticians, pharmacists, and medical office and administrative assistants.
