Emerald Lake Yukon

EOI - OBGYN

The Government of Yukon is seeking a third full-time OBGYN to join the Yukon Obstetrics and Gynecology Service. The Service is currently made up of two contracted providers and is expanding to three permanent resident providers under contract.  The Service works collaboratively with a dedicated maternity group including one GP surgeon, GP-OBs and midwives. Obstetrics and gynecology services are provided to all Yukoners within Whitehorse General Hospital and out of privately run clinics.

Program Description

The Obstetrics Service is consultant only, with GP-OBs and midwives providing primary maternity care. The gestational age limit in the territory is 35 weeks. In addition to consultant obstetrics, the physician joining the Service would provide both ambulatory and operative gynecology services. With a Service of three OBGYN there is opportunity for consistent back-up and support, as well as operating with an OBGYN assist.

This Service provides expert advice in maternal and female health within the territory through committee and advisory work. There are frequent opportunities to work with medical students and residents. Being a part of a small and nimble Service allows for opportunities for innovation, building programs and supporting system change.

This is a dynamic Service serving a diverse patient load. As such, additional skills in any of the following areas would be considered an asset:

  • Urogynecology
  • Advanced laparoscopy
  • Menopause care

The OBGYN Service is currently assigned 2 operating room days per week for booked surgeries as well as Colposcopy/Minor Procedures one half day per week.

Call will be 1:3, typically completed in blocks of approximately one week at a time. The overall scheduling model has potential for flexibility, but in a collaborative group would likely be 2 weeks on, 1 week off, allowing for up to 17 weeks throughout the year off the schedule.
