Team
- Our group is composed predominantly by family doctors with an interest in, and commitment to, emergency medicine; many of us maintain a primary care practice. The current roster has eleven physicians, four +1 ED physicians and seven family physicians with extensive ED experience.
Scheduling
- Scheduling includes double physician coverage during peak periods, and a second on-call system provides backup if required for patient load or acuity.
- Patient volumes typically vary from 80-100 patients per day with a mixture of high and low acuity.
Supports
- Clinical care of emergency patients is supported by 24hr on-call anesthesia, general surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, and occasionally visiting specialists. Typically, anesthesia is available on short notice for airway assessments, procedural sedation, intubation, art lines and similar interventions for emergency patients.
- Admissions are completed by the attending emergency physician with transfer of care to the hospitalist from 0800 - 2300 daily. Imaging modalities include XR, US, CT, and MRI.
