FACILITIES
The Haines Junction Health Centre is equipped to provide daily clinics for emergency, acute and primary care, community health programs and 24-hour emergency services by Primary Health Care Nurses (PHCN) in the absence of a physician. Limited point of care testing, referred out specimen collection, limited x-rays, and EKGs are all performed in Haines Junction, as well as having telehealth capabilities.
The Haines Junction Health Centre is open five days per week staffed by a collaborative health care team; they provide primary health care, public health care, and emergency services.
A Physician works in collaboration and partnership with the Haines Junction Community Health Centre nurses to provide primary care in the Village of Haines Junction along with visiting and virtual care services to the communities of Destruction Bay, Burwash Landing and Beaver Creek.
The model follows “the right provider at the right time for the right reason” which allows all team members to work to the full scope of their role and maintain competencies in that role while improving access at the right level of care to meet the patients need.
LOCAL SUPPORT STAFF
The Haines Junction Health Centre is staffed with three (3) primary health care nurses practicing in an expanded scope with rotating nurse on call 24/7/365 and a community public health nurse.
AMBULANCES / MEDIVAC
All ambulance services in the Yukon are provided through Yukon Emergency Medical Services (YEMS), through a combination of full time employees in Whitehorse, Dawson, and Watson Lake, and local volunteer EMS responders in the rest of the communities, including Haines Junction.
CONSULTANTS
The primary care team works closely with our specialists from Whitehorse General Hospital, which include: general surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, orthopedics, pediatrics, psychiatry, and sports medicine.
