Locum Dates: January 4-February 28, 2027 (minimum of 2 weeks)

Facility

  • There is a 6-bed GP-run hospital with 24h ER, and basic lab/X-Ray, with one ER RN and one inpatient RN 
  • Docs do 24h single coverage call for ER; the on-call doctor sees ER and clinic walk-ins, but can be at home outside of clinic hours.
  • Call is on average 1 in 5 in the summer.
  • Doctors follow any inpatients admitted during their ER shifts for the duration of their stay in hospital
  • Nearest OR and basic specialty services is Whitehorse, 6h away.

Remuneration

  • Weekdays 9-5 in clinic and/or ER are remunerated by an hourly rate
  • What this looks like:
    • 8 hour clinic day for a non-committed locum: 262.92 x8 = $2103.36
    • If on call (which is usually 1 in 5) an additional stipend: $1161.49
    • Weekday hourly after hours rate when on call: $328.65
    • Weekend hourly on call rate and inpatient rounding (guaranteed paid 8 hours minimum on call): $289.56
    • Weekend hourly after hours rate when on call: $361.96
    • Private billings paid at 100%.
    • No overhead

Benefits

  • Commitment bonuses available for locums working 8 weeks or more.
  • Housing provided and all travels expenses are reimbursed.

Locums should be comfortable working in a rural, remote ER and have had ACLS and ATLS training. PALS is not mandatory but would be an asset. There are no scheduled obstetrical deliveries in Dawson. We support one another during the very rare times when patients are critically ill.  Physicians also have the option to provide support to EMS for helicopter extractions at remote sites.  

Licensure with the Yukon Medical Council and Hospital Privileges are required.
