Dawson City Medical Clinic - Medical Lead

Program Description

Current clinical operations at the Dawson City Medical Clinic (DCMC) require medical leadership. DCMC is a primary health care clinic serving people living in Dawson City, Yukon. DCMC provides access to primary health care at the clinic on-site at the Dawson City Community Hospital, at the McDonald Lodge Continuing Care facility, and throughout the community.

Currently, DCMC is staffed by multiple contract and locum physicians and a team of Medical Office Assistants. Additional nursing supports are planned to be added to the team to facilitate multidisciplinary longitudinal primary health care.

The successful candidate will work as an advisor and medical lead for DCMC in conjunction with the Integrated Health Services (IHS) Medical Lead. Examples of the types of work expected of the Medical Lead include but are not limited to:

  • Lead clinical practice meetings, adding or amending clinic work standards and process flows to align with latest medical evidence
  • Complete clinical chart audits and reviews for primary care providers, applying corrective and instructive measures where necessary
  • Lead and provide advice to primary care providers to improve performance and accountability of the health care delivery system
  • Lead the delivery of a collaborative medical practice within DCMC, so that all clinic members practice using collaborative care principles
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals, stakeholders, and representatives of the department of Health and Social Services as an advisor in order to continue to foster and embed collaborative care principles in the community of Dawson City.
  • Co-lead the establishment of new pathways, in-territory and out-of-territory for specific clinical indications
  • Build physician-to-physician partnerships to support the integration of DCMC and providers into the broader Yukon healthcare system
  • Facilitate and advise IHS on the suitability of potential local and locum physicians and lead physician orientation
  • Act as main point of contact for learners, including residents
  • Support and advocate for physician and team wellbeing
  • Participate in regular meetings with leaders across the branch and health system
  • In conjunction with the Director of Insured Health Services, share overall responsibilities of ongoing contract evaluations and performance monitoring for DCMC contract physicians
  • Resolve disputes arising between affiliated physicians by amicable negotiations and handle any disputes in a confidential and respectful manner
  • Work with the Integrated Health Services leadership to provide input into current and future operational requirements for DCMC, including participating in the screening and hiring of Medical Office Assistants and Clinic Supervisor positions as needed and communicating needs for long-term clinic planning of human resources, equipment, and supplies
