The Government of Yukon is seeking a physician to provide visiting service to the community of Pelly Crossing.

Program Description

• The Pelly Crossing Health Centre operates weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, (closed from noon to 1 pm) and is staffed with nurses practicing in an expanded scope, with rotating on-call nursing coverage available 24/7/365. Pharmacy services are limited to emergencies only with routine medication refills mailed out or accessed through Whitehorse pharmacies.
• Limited point-of-care testing and x-rays for acute chest and limb presentations are available on site. Lab specimens are sent weekly to Whitehorse General Hospital, with other diagnostics referred externally. Telehealth services are available.
• Ambulance services are provided by Emergency Medical Responders 24/7/365 on a volunteer basis.
• Under contract, each physician will provide a minimum of 7.5 hours for 3 consecutive days of clinic time, for a total of 22.5 hours per trip. Ideally visiting clinics occur twice a month, with physicians concluding services no later than 4:30 pm daily. Ideally in-person service would be provided in Pelly Crossing twice per month and the physician team equally sharing the visits. Scheduling will be coordinated collaboratively with the Nurse in Charge to ensure adequate clinic coverage.

Contract Details

Remuneration

• Hourly rate - $235.75/hr (starting April 1, 2026)
• Travel time $1,200.00 per round trip

Other Expenses

• Travel mileage $0.73 per km (based on 566 km per return trip) as per the Yukon Government Travel Directive (adjusted annually)
• Per diem $135.70/day (in transit) as per the Yukon Government Travel Directive (adjusted annually)
• Accommodation must be secured by the physician and the expense will be paid at the actual cost of a maximum of $250.00 per night (receipts required)
• Plexia coverage up to $165.38/month (receipts required)

Shadow Billing

• All contracted physicians are required to shadow bill for services provided, either by paper claim or an electronic format that can be consumed by the claims processing system for Insured Health Services. 

Start date and term

• April 1, 2026, or as soon as possible until March 31, 2028

Time Commitment

• Regular Hours - 8:30 am to 4:30 pm while providing service in the community 3 consecutive days of clinic, depending on physician availability.

Contract conditions

The following conditions are contractual requirements and must be met prior to the contract start date.

Qualifications

Education and Licensing:

• Eligible for licensure with the Yukon Medical Council
• Maintain membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association
• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is an asset; candidates without these accreditations may still be considered.

Expected Skills and Abilities

• Experience providing physician services including urgent and emergent care in a rural, remote, and culturally diverse setting.
• Collaborative and committed to working within a multidisciplinary team environment
