EOI: Faro/Ross River Physician

The Government of Yukon is seeking two physicians to provide visiting physician service to the communities of Faro and Ross River.

Program Description

The Faro and Ross River Health Centres operate weekdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and are staffed with nurses practicing in an expanded scope, with rotating on-call nursing coverage available 24/7/365. Pharmacy services are limited to emergencies only with routine medication refills mailed out or accessed through Whitehorse pharmacies.

Limited point-of-care testing and x-rays for acute chest and limb presentations are available on site. Lab specimens are sent weekly to Whitehorse General Hospital, with other diagnostics referred externally. Telehealth services are available.

Ambulance services are provided by Emergency Medical Responders 24/7/365 on a volunteer basis.

Under contract, each physician will provide a minimum of 7.5 hours per day for four or five consecutive clinic days, split evenly between the two communities. Half days will be considered to allow travel to be completed during the weekday rather than on the weekend. Visiting clinics occur twice a month, with services concluding no later than 5:15 pm daily. Two physicians will be engaged to join the existing physician team with each physician providing services in Faro and Ross River once every two months. Scheduling will be coordinated collaboratively with the Nurse in Charge to ensure adequate clinic coverage.
