I've been coming to Watson Lake to do locums for years now. I keep coming back because it's a great group of people and setting for rural medicine. You just can't find this type of medicine in a city.– Dr. Morgan Brache
The Government of Yukon is seeking full-time and part-time physicians to join the Hospitalist service roster. A mixture of full and part-time Hospitalists are desired to create a robust and sustainable service.
The Hospitalist service provides 24/7 coverage of inpatient care at Whitehorse General Hospital, serving adult patients who require admission for acute medical needs. In-patient coverage provided by the service includes approximately 60 general hospital beds in the Medical/Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit, and Mental Wellness Unit. Five Hospitalist physicians are scheduled per day, with a target load of 14 patients and maximum load of 18 patients. Physicians working within the Hospitalist service work on a seven-day schedule sharing the day and evening shifts. The scheduled physicians share call 1:4 for Hospitalist service patients.
The hospitalist physician works within their privileged scope of practice for ‘GP with ICU’. For circumstances that are beyond scope, the hospitalist will transfer care or consult, as appropriate.
Rostered physicians work together within their defined commitment to ensure the service deliverables are met including the services listed below. Rostered physicians are considered voting members of the service and contribute to decisions related to quality improvement and the operation of the service.
The following are the direct patient care and clinical administrative services provided by the physicians in the Hospitalist service:
