EOI - Orthopaedic Surgeon

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST Orthopaedic Surgeon

The Yukon orthopaedic service group is seeking a full-time orthopaedic surgeon to join the service. The service currently consists of two providers and is expanding to three permanent resident providers.  The service works collaboratively to provide urgent and elective orthopaedic care to all Yukoners within Whitehorse General Hospital and out of an independent clinic.

Program Description

The Yukon orthopaedic surgery service provides general orthopaedic care for the Yukon. The service manages community level trauma and elective surgeries including primary total hip and knee arthroplasty.

The orthopaedic surgery group contributes to the delivery of medical services in Territory, including committee and advisory work. Our group integrates medical learners including residents and medical students, as available. Our team is small but growing quickly with opportunities for program development and innovation.

Resident orthopaedic surgeons must be proficient in community level trauma, including basic paediatric and hand trauma, but excluding pelvic/acetabular or spine trauma. Experience with primary hip and knee arthroplasty is preferable, with subspecialty training in upper limb or paediatrics considered an asset.

Call averages 1:3 and is completed in one week blocks. The current model of coverage is scheduled on a three-week cycle, consisting of two weeks on, one week off, where there are always two surgeons on the schedule.  The service is currently assigned 3.5 operating room days per week as well as minor procedures one half day per week. The service also provides 2.5 days of cast clinic.
