EOI: Visiting Rheumatologist

Yukon Hospital Corporation is seeking expressions of interest from qualified Rheumatologists to provide visiting specialist services in Whitehorse, Yukon through Yukon Hospitals’ Visiting Specialist Clinic. Approximately ten clinics are scheduled annually (occurring every six weeks), with the opportunity to supplement these with additional virtual clinics throughout the year to further enhance accessibility, continuity, and timeliness of patient care.

Program Description

Whitehorse General Hospital (WGH) is a modern facility in a city of 37,000 that provides the only emergency services to the Yukon Territory with a catchment size of over 43,000, including the community of Atlin, BC.

This position supports the delivery of outpatient rheumatology services to Yukon residents, in partnership with local primary care providers and allied health teams. The service is well established, with a growing patient population and an experienced clinical nursing team.

The scope of practice includes:

  • New patient assessments and follow-up consultations
  • Management of chronic and complex rheumatologic conditions
  • Collaboration with nursing and allied health staff to support care coordination
  • Participation in virtual consultations and case reviews, as needed

Support and Infrastructure

  • Dedicated clinic space and administrative support through the Visiting Specialist Clinic
  • Onsite nursing support, including an RN pursuing ACPAC (Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Arthritis Care) certification – estimated completion June 2026
  • Access to local laboratory, imaging, and pharmacy services
  • Meditech EMR access and administrative coordination by YHC staff
  • On-campus accommodation close to clinic

Contract Details

Remuneration

  • Remuneration for this service is through a fee for service model.

Other Expenses

  • Physicians are reimbursed for eligible expenses associated to travel.

Benefits

Benefits may be provided through the Yukon Medical Association and may include:

  • CMPA reimbursement (100%),

Start date and term

We are looking for a Visiting Rheumatologist to begin in April 2026, but finding the right candidates is a priority. Start date is negotiable.

Time Commitment

Currently, ten, week-long clinics are offered every six weeks (approximately 375 hours annually), shared between 2 providers. There is also an opportunity to provide additional virtual clinics throughout the year, as required, to support ongoing patient access and continuity of care.

Ability to meet the following conditions are contractual requirements and are required in advance of the contract start date:

  • Licensure with the Yukon Medical Council

Qualifications

Education and Licensing:

  • Eligible for licensure with the Yukon Medical Council
  • Eligible for privileging with the Yukon Hospital Corporation
  • FRCPC with subspecialty in Rheumatology
  • Maintain membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association

Expected Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated interests and/or commitment to providing rheumatology care within Yukon
  • Collaborative and committed to working within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Culturally sensitive practice
  • Demonstrated leadership in clinical and non-clinical settings
