Faro/Ross River Clinic Only.

Locum Coverage Required: Dec 15-19th

Program Description

  • The Faro and Ross River Health Centers are open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm during weekdays and is staffed with nurses practicing in an expanded scope, with rotating nurse call 24/7/365.
  • Pharmacy services are limited to emergencies only with medication refills being mailed out or picked up in person from one of the Whitehorse pharmacies.
  • Limited point of care testing and x-rays for both acute chest and limbs can be performed on site.
  • Labs are drawn and sent to Whitehorse General Hospital on a weekly basis, with all other diagnostics being referred out.
  • The Health Centers also have Telehealth capabilities.
  • Ambulance services are provided by Emergency Medical Responders 24/7/365 on a volunteer basis.

Coverage Expectations:

  • Physician will provide a minimum of 7.5 hours for four consecutive days of clinic time, for a total of 30 hours split evenly between the two communities
  • Visiting clinics occur twice a month, with physicians rendering services no later than 5:15pm daily.
  • Physicians would work together and with the Nurse in charge on scheduling to ensure adequate coverage for the visiting clinics.

Contract Details

Remuneration

  • Rate of $1,691.25 per day
  • Travel time $1,600.00 per round trip

Other Expenses

  • Travel mileage @ $0.70 per km (based on 1000 km per return trip) as per the Yukon Government Travel Directive 
  • Per diem $135.70/day (in transit)as per the Yukon Government Travel Directive 

Shadow Billing

  • All contracted physicians are required to shadow bill for services provided, either by paper claim or an electronic format that can be consumed by the claims processing system for Insured Health Services. 

Contract conditions

  • Ability to meet the following conditions are contractual requirements and are required in advance of the contract start date.Licensure with the Yukon Medical Council

Qualifications

Education and Licensing:

  • Eligible for licensure with the Yukon Medical Council
  • Maintain membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association

Additional training

Candidates must also demonstrate certification in:

  • Advanced Cardiac Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Expected Skills and Abilities

  • Experience providing physician services including urgent and emergent care in a rural, remote, and culturally diverse setting.
  • Collaborative and committed to working within a multidisciplinary team environment
