Program Description
Physicians in Dawson City provide timely access to primary and emergency health care for people living and visiting Dawson City, Yukon. The physician role in Dawson City is multi-faceted and provides care in multiple locations across the community.
- Dawson City Medical Clinic (DCMC): A large portion of a physician’s time is spent providing in-clinic primary care for non-urgent conditions at the Dawson City Medical Clinic (DCMC). The DCMC is comprised of a clinic supervisor, contract and locum physicians, and medical office assistants. It is anticipated the team will grow to include nursing supports as well, including Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse. The DCMC is open 9am - 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. The DCCH is open 24/7 and there are on-call requirements for this position specific to the work at DCCH.
- Dawson City Community Hospital (DCCH): Physicians are also required to be on-call for Emergency Room and in-patient hospital support for acute and urgent conditions. The six inpatient bed hospital has a 24h ER, and basic lab/X-Ray services. Physicians cover 24h call for ER and the on-call physician also sees ER and clinic walk-ins, but can be at home outside of clinic hours. Call is on average 1-in-4.5
- McDonald Lodge Long-Term Care Facility: Physicians provide in-clinic or on-site support for all conditions at the McDonald Lodge.
- Helivac and medevac: In collaboration with Emergency Medical Services, physicians may, depending on their interest and experience, provide emergency support as needed for medical evacuations both from remote locations and in-town.
- Community: Physicians provide community visits as needed for people who are unable to attend care at other clinical locations.
The successful candidates will work as members of a collaborative health care team, providing same-day and scheduled primary health care, on-demand urgent and emergent care.
