Community Description
The Village of Haines Junction lies on the edge of a vast and spectacular wilderness and is a gateway to Kluane National Park and Reserve. The community lies within the traditional territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, where Southern Tutchone people have resided for thousands of years.
Haines Junction is a two hour drive (154 kilometres) from Whitehorse, located at the junction of the Alaska and Haines Highways. In general, the catchment area for Haines Junction includes the Alaska Highway north to km 1630.4 (Christmas Creek) and south to km 1518.4 (Champagne) and Haines Highway west to km 102.2 (Summit).
Clinic Description
The Haines Junction Health Centre is equipped to provide daily clinics for emergency, acute and primary care, community health programs and 24-hour emergency services by Primary Health Care Nurses (PHCN) in the absence of a physician. Limited point of care testing, referred out specimen collection, limited x-rays, and EKGs are all performed in Haines Junction, as well as having telehealth capabilities.
